"There is a shortage of trucks in Jamaica at this time, and a lot of mining is taking place for aggregate such as sand and gravel, hence, there is a lot of hauling," she explained.

He added that the decision to become Shacman dealers emerged from Tank-Weld’s experience of operating an ageing fleet.
The China-based company, which recently inked a deal with Tank-Weld (TW) to distribute its trucks in Jamaica, will be setting up offices in Six Miles, St Andrew, close to TW’s main offices, by end of April 2018. The company announced its decision to its partners early last week.
"When China decided to up their game and make their name a little bit better regarding performance and quality, instead of reinventing the wheel, they went to Germany and negotiated with MAN and bought the entire contents of the factory, since that company was exiting that level of technology," he said.
"For us at Tank-Weld, this is a very positive move, given that a regional office in Jamaica, with permanent technical staff residing here, will provide access to excellent assistance and support to TW in responding to its customers’ enquiries; and after-sales service requirements, at a technical level," Ralston explained.
