Speaking at the launch of the dealership at the Spanish Court Hotel in St. Andrew on June 25, Ralston pointed out that Tank-Weld’s truck fleet was similar to that of much of the rest of the trucking industry in the country.

Chinese makers have long coveted the Russian market and now FAW, CNHTC, Dong Feng, Shacman, Dayun and Foton all vie for a share of the action, with most targeted at the significant tipper and mixer market where Chinese chassis are said to be 30 per cent of the price of an ‘occidental’ truck. 

"Yes, we’re bringing in the same Shacman trucks that the Chinese have been using for the last three years," Managing Director of Tank-Weld Equipment John Ralston confirmed to the Financial Gleaner.

Managing Director John Ralston said local training and certification will strengthen drivers’ skill and knowledge, and also prepare drivers for the overseas market.

Only 755,000 of the country’s 933,000km of roads are paved, with the main route through Russia’s hinterland being the Trans Siberian Railway. Indeed, the Russian State Railway Company, RZD, claims to transport the majority of national freight, and boasts the largest railway network outside the United States.
